Course Description

This qualification reflects the role of individuals in a range of community settings and people’s homes, who provide support in a manner that empowers people with disabilities to achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance, community participation and wellbeing. Workers promote a person-centred approach, work according to and may contribute to an individualised plan, and work without direct supervision. They may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a small team.

The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.

No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.

International Student Entry Requirements

International students enrolling in this course at Frontier College must meet the following requirements:

Age Requirement

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application.

English Language Requirement

Where the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) requires evidence of English language proficiency for a student visa application (both offshore and onshore applicants), students must meet one of the following:

• IELTS (General) overall score of 5.5 or equivalent for direct entry into the course;
                                                             or
• IELTS overall score of 5.0 or equivalent, together with an approved ELICOS
  program (up to 10 weeks) completed before commencing the VET course.

Academic Requirement

• Successful completion of Year 12 (Senior Secondary School Certificate) or an overseas qualification considered equivalent.

LLND:

• As part of the enrolment process, students are required to complete a Language, Literacy, and Numeracy Digital (LLND) test to ensure that the student has the ability to complete the course. This test will occur prior to course commencement.
• The test will be assessed by an authorised Frontier Trainer/Assessor.
• If students do not meet the recommended English and/or LLND requirements, they will be referred for additional support with an ACSF Support Plan.
• Students may also be asked to undertake further Language, Literacy, and Numeracy training, such as ELICOS programs at other institutes (Frontier does not offer ELICOS programs).

• Students are requested to meet the Student Support Officer for guidance and/or support.
• Additional support strategies will be implemented if LLND difficulties are identified during training.

Students may also be asked to undertake further Language, Literacy, and Numeracy training, such as ELICOS programs at other institutes, to ensure they receive appropriate support and guidance. Frontier does not offer ELICOS programs. Students are requested to meet the Student Support Officer to seek guidance and/or support.

In the event that a Trainer and Assessor identifies students with LLND difficulties, or where students require or request additional LLND support, appropriate strategies will be implemented to assist them with their learning. Additional support will be provided by the Institute through the ACSF Support Plan.
